You are out of luck: The bridge won't work with SMF 2.0
3  General Discussion / Techies Zone / Re: Creating new usergroups in joomla on: December 12, 2008, 10:42:22 AM
Hi Brandon,

First of all; joomla is not designed to do this kind of usergroup stuff. I investigated the exact same problem a while ago. My conclusion was that if a hack or special component worked, you sooner or later would run in serious upgrading problems. I hate to say it, but you should skip Joomla for this.

This could be the hiding of buttons, topics in fireboard and other functionalities for certain groups. I have tried the extension Juga for this, but to my surprise this extension still shows content to users when they don’t have the right to see it.

If I understand correctly, you want usergroups for your forum. This is possible in SMF and other forum software. SMF is great in this kind of stuff.

Are there any SMF bridges avavibile for joomla 1.0 ?
Yes, the JSMF one; the download is on this site. I just don't recommend it, to go that way. You are building a new website on an old framework! The end of life of joomla 1.0.x is summer next year and the last maintance of the JSMF bridge is more than 1.5 year ago.

Just a thought: a lot of webmasters just use the bridges to integrate a forum nicely in joomla. A good bridge is a very sophisticated piece of software and is quit complex to maintain (eg. upgrading and so on) IMHO you can better adapt your joomla template to match your forums theme. Also forums are musch better in handeling user levels.

I don't like phpbb, so I can't help you with that.

Hi Kemal,

For the time being there is no stable SMF Joomla 1.5.x bridge. There is one for phpbb. Please note bridging is quite complicated; for a newbie I recommend fireboard forum. That's just a Joomla component and easy to install.

JSMF won't work on Joomla 1.5.x. Nor will it in the future.

Yes, you need JSMF 2.0.2.1 to get the bridge working with joomla 1.0.15.

(If you did a search on the forum, you would have found dozens of topics about this)

Hi Tony,

I am sorry to inform you that Wolverine stopped developing and supporting JSMF. It's known that the CB plugin is very buggy...
