1  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: JSMF Registration Key and Copyright Notice on: July 01, 2007, 09:41:36 AM
While I am all for giving credit to copyright holders of GPL code and for a system to encourage donations, I feel that making someone donate to get rid of the "Joomla Bridge by Joomlahacks.com" copyright notice is not right. So I have created a tool for users to get the registration key to enter into their site if the wish. You can find it here: http://www.parkerhome.org/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,45/.

All you need to do is enter your URL for your Joomla site. Note this is not the URL to your SMF directory but to your root Joomla site. This has only been tested with the 2.0.2 version of the JSMF Bridge since this is the version that I run. If there is interest for testing of other versions please let me know and I will see if this works with them.

I have done this for 2 reasons:

1. To encourage the maintainers of this GPL'd code to remove the check for this which adds a ton of unnecessary overhead to the execution of this script. I will gladly provide patch files to them that removes the offending code.

2. Because normal non-hacker end users can not easily find the obscured code and find out how to remove it like I have. They should at least be able to remove the copyright notice on the output which is not required under the GPL of any version.

Excellent -thanks - and it works great!

Having sent a donation in good faith and not received the code after numerous private messages and emails, I feel totally justified in using this.

As you say, it is not in keeping with the GPL licence anyway.

If JoomlaHacks wants to make it commercial then that is a different issue, but to request donations under false pretences is just plain unethical.

Thanks again!
2  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Removing registration link from login module on: June 13, 2007, 07:14:33 AM
I need to remove the "No account yet? Register" line from the login module.

Could someone please let me know how to do that.

I have looked in mod_smf_login.php and it does not seem to be there.

Thanks!
3  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: When do I receive my activation code? on: June 13, 2007, 07:12:19 AM
Well, 5 weeks, several private messages and emails and still no code.

I ahve to say this is very disappointing to see donations sent in good faith ignored, and no promised code to remove the joomlahacks link.

Could someone please tell me what file to edit to remove the code manually?

Thanks!
4  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: When do I receive my activation code? on: May 27, 2007, 07:32:27 AM
sent email once again to the ID I had made the payment to... please send me the activation code too.... thanks!!!

Still no activation code here several days after sending a donation.

How long does this "process" usually take? It can't be that demanding surely?

It hardly encourages others to donate to the case.

I've sent all pending activation codes.
Please send an email to the paypal email if you didn't get it.

Sent yesterday by PM. Please send code per my instructions today and also by PM.

Thanks!

I have made my donation to this worthy project but have not received the activation code - how do I get it?

Thanks.
7  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: No authentication on: May 23, 2007, 02:42:57 PM
Well as a test I switched to Joomla-SMF login, and that seems to work perfectly.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages with using these different registation methods? I must say I prefer the SMF login due to the opportunity of adding terms of service and also the captcha.

Strange it doesn't want to work from the module though.

Joomla-SMF is installed perfectly, but when a user registers the login module returns the error the user does not exist and the login fails.

I have manually checked both the Joomla and SMF user tables and the registrations do exist and are active in both.

In install I sync the users, and the message is returned that the users are in sync.

So it would seem to be the module not authenticating from the databases.

How can I fix this please?

Thanks!

11  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Is a key required for the bridge to work at all? on: May 21, 2007, 05:37:08 PM
Having spent the whole day doing successful installs as reported by the config screen only to have it not work, i.e. not share login data, it occured to me that maybe this extension does not work until a key is added -is this the case before I use any more time getting it to share data?

Thanks!
12  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: SMF not synchronising on: May 21, 2007, 11:55:07 AM
Well I have installed and uninstalled half a dozen times includinf deleting and re-creating databases, it installs fine, says it has installed fine, but will still not synchronise users and passwords.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

Thanks!
13  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / SMF not synchronising on: May 21, 2007, 07:20:11 AM
I have just installed Joomla-SMF and the installtion looks fine - no errors and the installation reports it as fine.

If I add a user to Joomla, and the correct option is set in the config, the forums requires a login. If I use the same login it does not exist.

So they are not talking to each other.

Any ideas please?

Thanks!
14  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 1.0.x / Re: Component install fails on: January 09, 2006, 03:14:54 PM
I had the same problem,

Are you trying to upload the entire zip, you need to upload each individual component/model. Hence you should be uploading the component com_joomla_smf_forum_1.0.1b.zip, and others as needed (not the entire archive JoomlaSMFForum_1.0.1b.zip.)

Hope this helps. Teel me how it goes, because Im stuck with a warning about including ssi.php. Error like so->

Warning: main(/SSI.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in 'yadayadayada'/smf.php on line 15

The italics is just a directory I didn't want to publish.

Thanks; that was it; in fact I discovered that was the reason just after posting this message.

Works great now!

Best regards.
