Joomla and SMF both load fine separately. It's only when I load the forum with J-SMF (unwrapped) that it slows down a great deal. I haven't used wrapped because I haven't yet designed a template that works very well for that. I will have to soon, though, since our previous template crapped out last night for no apparent reason and the backup copy won't load either. For now, I just changed my links so they load the default SMF location. Everything's working unwrapped for now.
The forums I run are almost innavigable at times. The pages take forever to load, if they do at all, and it's especially bothersome with long posts typed out that don't go through. Other parts of the site still load at normal rates. It might just be the server I'm running it on, but I'm not sure, so I'm trying a few things there, too.
I'm not sure about the second question, but the first is quite simple. You can remove the login information by editing your template. Just remember to remove the link AND the quick login if you have both. You might also want to remove the registration link unless you use the SMF registration, but it doesn't sound like you do.
Will the other linking sites need to have the bridge as well, or is there just a single site that will have the bridge and the others will only load the SMF content?
It did install correctly on my Mambo 4.5.4 install. I'll compare my index.php to yours when I get a chance, but I'm quite busy right now, and someone else might be quicker at getting to it than I can be.
There are a few people working on correcting the issue with the login redirection. It is a known bug that might be fixed with the next version which is set to be released soon.
As for the admin problem, if you are the only admin, then you will have to manipulate the DB settings. Otherwise, I would suggest having another admin try to log in and set your account back to an Administrator. If you don't know what you're doing with the DB, you should let someone else know to help you through that part.
Install the mod on your SMF, and follow the readme (I just assumed there is one that will lead you through it). If there isn't a readme, then 1) the mod developers were st$p$d and 2) Post back here if you need help, and I'll run it on my test forum.
