317  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: JSMF 2.0 Final on: July 30, 2007, 11:34:07 AM
wow that would be great if we could stay on using the joomlahacks bridge and login module etc.
The whole GPL issue is getting more and more people angry. all that sites that use joomla and smf using a bridge are experiencing problems....
i hope this is gonna work, then we could all upgrade and use the JSMF bridge.
The component is now working very good on J 1012 and latest SMF

What do you mean all the sites having problems with the Bridge? The Bridges is working great on J! 1.0.12 and on SMF 1.1.3 and also on the SMF cvs releases. (tested the Joomlahacks and Simplemachines bridge with the CVS releases of SMF)

There is only an small issue with the J! 1.0.13 login routine. (there are some security changes on this one) So you can read on the forums that the advise is not to upgrade to J! 1.0.13.

And about the GPL licence the J! and SMF core team are working on a solution on that.

319  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: Should we move on to Fireboard? on: July 29, 2007, 05:26:57 AM
At this moment the projects are not dead. There is a legal discussion. Simplemachines has decided to remove temporary the Bridge.

Think it is better to wait what on an Solution before migrating to Fireboard. And lets hope there comes a solution.

Fireboard has not the options as SMF has, my option is to migrate to Mambo Tongue

323  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: Converting FROM JSMF to Orstio's Bridge on: July 28, 2007, 05:04:49 AM
Hello,

I've been a long time user of JSMF, absolutely no complaints.

However, I need to convert to Orstio's bridge (official SMF Joomla Bridge).

Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction on how to accomplish this?

I doubt its overly complex, but not having done it before I'd appreciate someone with experience to inform me how its done.

I don't need exact instructions, as I'll follow Orstio's, but I'd like to know what I need to do to fully remove JSMF (aside from the obvious removing the component itself - if there is anymore to it than that??)

Thanks in Advance!

C.

327  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: Page becomes smaller when selecting wrapped smf on: July 26, 2007, 11:13:31 AM
Why deleting Css files and not really fixing the problem Wink So as you described the problem seems that you have problems with duplicate classes. This covered many times on the forums Tongue
328  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: JSMF development will continue on: July 26, 2007, 12:44:37 AM
Think the best way to find out is to contact the core Team.

Why? See one of my recent post in this topic Wink

There are definitely shared function calls and data structures between Joomla! and SMF via the bridge, and therefore the bridge still violates the GPL by including a non-GPL element in the workflow.

Please read the threads on Joomla.org and Simplemachines carfully and also the the blog on simplemachines then you will get the point.

Like this thread for example (here you can read the mails between SMF and FSF.

Think it is very clear now there is a official statement on the Joomla.org boards and Simplemachines boards. Simplemachines has this discussion all ready had for a few weeks even months with Joomla and FSF.

Joomla! is very clear in this one the Bridge between Joomla! and SMF is violating the licence code. So we all have to respect that. When you have program skills you can make your own Bridge but you can not distribute it!! Why distribution of the bridge is violating the licence of Joomla!

At this moment I’m looking for an alternative for the future. Testing with Mambo and it looks very good.
