JSMF 2.0RC1 is released and can be downloaded from the remository. (http://www.joomlahacks.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,41/func,fileinfo/id,426/)


The user guide can be found in the remository (http://www.joomlahacks.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,41/func,fileinfo/id,424/) as well.  Documentation is still ongoing however there is a fair amount included in this doc.  Anyone wishing to help please let me know.

Language files still need to be translated.  Anyone wishing to help with the translations please attach them to this post.

Thank you for all your work. I hope you don't mind me bugging you, but there is still an issue with the SMF avatars not appearing in the CB profile. Also, I noticed that the links for the forum profile settings are correct now, but it still does not work when saved.

yes, go ahead.  I tested both of these with this release and didn't encounter a problem so I am unsure what is causing your problems.

which sef?  Joomla SEF?  It is setup to work with that by default.

yeah I thought I'd seen that it was compatible - I'm using ARTIO joomsef. I'm only just starting to use it so it doesn't matter which one we use so maybe I'll try uninstalling that

think I sorted it - in the configuration I removed the option to ignore commas (,) and so far seems to be working well now..........

If unpatch everithing is OK

it could be a definition that SMF is making that is causing this.  The section in the joomla index that defines the headers does not get called when SMF has already sent the headers.  Do you know if you charset is the same for both SMF and Joomla?

you need to go into phpMyAdmin and find this username.  Basically, this user's email is already in joomla but the usernames don't match. Make them match in phpMyAdmin or delete them from one or the other. All the other users have been synced although the counts aren't coming through for some strange reason.

i use Brat plugin (CB_SMF_JSMF-->plug_smfinfo, plug_smfprofile, plug_smgposts)
When a user change his smf profile (via Brat plugin smfprofile in CB) and then saves, he receives an error msg (see attached file)

Prb with Bridge or Brat plugin ?

Looked like the user wasn't in joomla at all, only the SMF table for some reason, deleted out of SMF and now sync usernames works successfully.

Thats exactly the reason.  The script is trying to get the file and fails.
Sure you have your settings correct?  I tested this pretty thoroughly.

Can anyone tell me what verisons of Joomla and SMF they are running with this RC1 working?

This is my first time using all three and after installing and configuring, I am receiving weird problems like CB registration not coming up and login for admin no longer working.

I am running Joomla 1.0.11, SMF 1.0.8, CB 1.0.1, and JSMF 2.o RC1.  All installed on same host and in same DB, working ok independently.

you must read the documentation!  This bridge does not work with anything but SMF 1.1RCX.  That is what is wrong with your install.

I could do some translation work (german, and maybe greek...).
One question, how stable is the version? because at the moment I have not test machine and my community is growing...  ::)

It has been very stable so far.  The only changes since beta1 were minor bug fixes so the core code has been running stable for many users for a month or so.  However, I never recomment installing it first without testing, so be careful.

I have come a crossed a few odd.. bugs I guess.
First one isn't a biggy, but a little annoying. After installing the bridge some text is larger. Please see the images provided. It might just be something in the CSS file, as you will notice that my link color also changes after installing the bridge. I would just like to know what to do about the enlarged text.

The second and most important issue is that when I go to synchronize my users, it gives me a "The page cannot be displayed." error. It looks as if some members synced up, but not all of them.

I installed it at my site and it works great! Good job integrating this with CB Enhanced and UDDEIM!  ALL the profile links in SMF, take you to the CB profile! sweet!

How can I make the CB Enhanced avatar show in SMF?

I am using:

CBE sv0.6236  (latest version)
SMF 1.1 RC3 (latest version)
JSMF Forum 2.0RC1 (latest version)
and mod_cbelogin_2.458.zip (latest login module for CBE)

I installed the new version and it works really great!

What I like:
-No error messages or bugs ;D Great work!
-more configuration possibilities
-sync works good

What I don't like (small things..):
-In the 1.1.4.2 version the regsiter and the lost pw link used the template style now it changed to simple links.
-when I ckick on upload avatar it redirects me to cb profile-ok. I upload a file and I can see it in the cb profile but not in the login module.
-I don't really what to do with the smf.plugin file...
-there is still no possibilty to open the Forum link in a new window (unwrapped)

This on the JSMF login?

Yeah I use JSMF Login and I don't see the avatar in smf. But you can try it on your own, your account still exists. www.corfu.at ;)

yes

The SMF css must be included before the Joomla or vice versa and it was the other way with the old version.  The real problem is that you have the same definition in both files, and you need to merge them in order to get the same appearance. 
turn joomla error reporting to maximum and check your php error_log to see if an error is being reported.  How many users do you have?

Thanks for the asnwer, is very diffcult tho change charset once all is intalled, I tried but don't change anything, the problem was solved reinstalling SMF forum and Uncheck UTF-8 box during the process, and now, almost everything appear to be ok.

I made some improvements to the avatar sync when the avatar is a url in SMF.  I found a couple bugs so I think this should resolve most of the problems users reported.  In addition, I am rewriting Brat's SMF profile plugin for CB and will address the same changes in the avatar sync in the plugin.

com_smf_2_0 is the correct file.  Does your server have zip enabled? 

Yea ofcourse. i am able to install others files. Right now i am trying to communicate with my server's admin. But i thought that maybe it's not ma server's fault.

I got the same error when setting different themes for different boards. It seems to be due to the bridge, as it works fine, when calling the forum directly. There is no difference if I use a theme supplied with SMF or if I use a theme I adjusted myself.

When a new user creates a account on my site, their forum names are their real names and not their usernames. I tried changing the option in the bridge to sync by usernames but it does not work. Any idea's?

Great work on jsmf 2.0 rc1! Everything's working nicely now.

I reported a bug awhile back on beta3. Lemme quote it:
You mentioned you're working on a new version of the SMF-CB plugin. Is that in the works now? You replied to my previous post saying: I have an idea to this: maybe the plugin can automatically set SMF's avatar to the "No Image" picture used by CB (the one with the shadow of a head) whenever a user removes his avatar via CB?

Another suggestion: now that there are so many CB plugins and updates/new versions to CB plugins, it'll be real convenient if a new category is added to the download page (assuming it's not already there, which i cant seem to find). Thanks again for all the hard work!

I get an error when trying to change inside smf the full name of the currently logged user by editing  and trying to save the modified smf user profile:

The following error message poppes up, and after closing it the result is that the fullname is correctly saved in the Joomla DB tables whereas it is NOT changed in the smf DB tables:

MY FIX:

Debugging the situation i located where the problem was:

It islocated in the file components\com_smf\smf.class.php, line 1395:

The error in this is because getJid(...) always looks up for a username in joomla database whereas here it was called with the full name stored in $value variable. So i corrected this by substituting $value with $memberName.


now it works fine.

Joomla cuts the returned error message off in the display of it.  Check the URL for that page, the full error message is in the URL.

yes, I fixed this just last week and it will be included in the next release.

I added a feature to the bridge to re-display the full error message if joomla chops it off.

The cause inside the code:

In order to complete, the login procedure which gave already positive
results from both jos and smf database table compares, it has to pass the function mosMenuCheck() in line 236 of file index.php:


However this check fails, if the forum, com_smf is made accessible for registered users only.

I have to build a forum which is not public but allows access only for registered users! So i don't want to show the corrisponding menu tab of the main menu only if the user has not het logged in correctly;

In order to resolve the problem, for the moment i did my own "bad" workaround in the source code of joomla's index.php, letting pass all $options with value 'com_smf' :

I don't know what you think about, but maybe you could take into account to include a similar workaround in the patching procedure during installation where you already alter the original code index.php.

Ok, I identified this one as well, CB is not triggering a plugin if the user deletes his/her avatar.  So there is nothing I can do for this one at this point other than report this as a bug to CB which I have done.  :(

That was it.  Had a few phantom users that were imported a long time ago from my old Geeklog user-base, some had apostrophe's in their names and there was the problem.  Many thanks. 

There is one more tiny little thing that has changed with RC1. 

The Joomla_SMF_Discussbot in the Betas included the discussbot link on the front page articles, which display only the introtext on my Joomla template setup.  While the link was there, it would not work unless a user viewed the entire story. 

Now, in RC1 the link does not display on the front page and only when the full story is viewed. 

I checked all my settings double to see that it wasn't a switch.  Is this intended, or something I'm missing?

Same problem on my site:
- After I log-in using the form on the SMF forum - I'm redirected to the joomla main page. The same with logout.
- After I log-in from community builder native login module - I stay on the same page I was previously. No matter if it was a forum or other component.

Wolverine - was it planned or it is a bug?

It is not a bug, but because there are so many things interacting here I do not redirect unless there is nothing else set for a redirect url.  If something is set that is where the bridge will redirect you to.  It says as much in the user guide and the help in configuration.  For the mod_smf_login this will be improved with the next build.  For the other modules it is up to them to set the correct data for the redirects.

better check your smf_members table, it seems an entire column is missing.  Did you just upgrade SMF?  I have had problems with the SMF upgrade procedure in the past.

I reinstalled smf and the bridge but now i get the following error:

you should search before posting, this has been reported numerous times.  You can change your collation using phpMyAdmin

The memberid of the inserted user is not always reported back correctly by db_insert_id()! So subsequent updates on this member fail!

I am not sure, but could it depend in some way on the integrate_register function which is called before the db_query call? Anyhow, i fixed it by adding an explicit query to get the correct $memberID. Now it works without problems.

In regards to the redirects. I need to be able to login and logout and be redirected to ONE specific page on my site. However the redirect to URL in the smf_login module does not seem to work.

Is there any fix for this?
OR
Could you tell me where in the code I could enter a fixed page that will used when you login or log out?

Either I don't understand something or you. Please - let me understand/clear your understanding:
When I'm logging in from CB login module - after successful login I stay wherever I was. At the same time after successful login from SMF - the bridge redirects me to the main page.
My question: where can I change the SMF redirection to "do not redirect me anywhere, just stay where you are"?
The CB login module works as I want it to work (redirection URL is empty). Why do you write that "I do not redirect unless there is nothing else set for a redirect url.  If something is set that is where the bridge will redirect you to". So where is the bridge checking the redirection URL if it is not CB?

There's a funny error in my forum I could not find any info about:

For some strange reason, duplicate user accounts are created on SMF. (By "duplicate" I mean, they match the same Joomla user, and, as I've seen on the DB, they have same username but somehow password happens to be stored on db unencrypted.

I contacted a user whose account was duplicated, he told me he didn't change anything on his profile.

Something that I suspects is important is that duplicated usernames are in greek characters (my site uses utf-8 everywhere).

Any ideas  ???

When I quote the normal way the reply window is outside joomla. If I qoute when the quick reply is open, everything works great.

Sure thing! What Wolverine meant in detail is that you need to open the CSS file associated with your desired SMF theme, and then copy and paste the entire contents of that file into your Joomla template's template_css.css file.

I'd strongly recommend that you append SMF's CSS at the end of the Joomla template CSS file. Often times (in fact, every time  ;))SMF's CSS file contains CSS codes controlling links, paragraphs, etc. - yep, just like Joomla. That means you're gonna have duplicate CSS codes, and you'll need to edit the "merged" template_css.css (Joomla CSS) file accordingly. There is a bit of "trial and error" to the whole thing to get the look you want, but it's not heinous.

I'm dealing with all this now for my current projects, so don't hesitate to ask more questions as needed.

Okay, I'm not sure how to edit this either. However, I think this may point you in the right direction - anyone feel free to jump in if I'm wrong.

I believe the file you need to look at for this version of JSMF is:
administrator\components\com_smf\admin.smf.class.php

This file seems to contain all the routines for the bridge related to user creation and synchronization.

Of particular interest are:

function syncUsers (starting on or about line 404)
function createSMFUser (starting on or about line 548)

I don't have time to tear through the code previously used for this fix in the last version, but this is where I'd start. Hope this helps!

What for is it? It causes that after logging in instead of redirection to the same page on which the user was during logging in - he is redirected to main page because the $setLocation variable is always cleared!

Isn't it a bug?

No, it is not a bug, it does not clear any valid url.  If you redirected to a url with your password in it it would not be the page you logged in from.  In addition, that url with your password would get stored to your history which is obviously a security problem. 

That piece of code does not *always* clear setLocation.

The redirect works like this.  First it checks if your login module has a static location set for login or logout.  Next it checks if a variable named return was passed by the form.  This is the normal joomla method for returning a member to the location they logged in from.  Finally, if neither of those two are set then we fall back to the bridge defaults of login and logout redirects. 

I will take another look.  Which login form are you having a problem with?

I'm using CB login module, but the problem is with logging in from SMF.
Just a little description of test scenario that I can do on my page:
1. I'm inside the forum, then I'm logging in from SMF -> and I'm redirected to main page, variable $setLocation is ''
2. I'm inside the forum, then I'm logging in from CB -> I stay where I was, variable $setLocation is set to the right page/thread
3. I commented the code I wrote you previously & I'm inside the forum, then I'm logging in from SMF -> I'm still in the forum, variable $setLocation is set to the right page/thread

It seems that the code spoils my redirection.

Seems like a problem with template you are using. Maybe there are some tags that are not closed and this is the reason that some of the elements are displayed wrong way?
I had similar problem with my joomla template and I found one tag inappropriatelly closed. When I fixed it everything was working normal.

In general this should not be a problem of the bridge as it does not modify the SMF code.

thanks for the kick in the butt!  I took another look and it seems I was approaching this security problem wrong and you were right that this code could be incorrectly clearing forum locations.  I have reworked the code and it seems to be behaving better.  It will be included in JSMF 2.0RC2

Why is it only with a quote and not a reply for instance?
If it is in my template do you mean the index.php from the template?
The other strange thing is that when I copy the Link Location from my browser and paste it into a new window it works like it should.

Yes this can be in the Index.php of your template

example when you open a function you also have to close it.
A simple example
<td <--open tag
</td> <--Close tag

I tried it with 3 different templates:
1. madeyourweb
2. p3p70bf2_1
3. rhuk_solarflare_ii
They all have the same problem.

I've checked the entire template and didn't find any problems.
With the old version of the bridge I didn't have any problem.

Oke did some futher testing and changed the template of SMF. Normally I use the default template of SMF. The only theme were it did work correctly was Dark Day.
If there is anyone who knows were to look I would really appreciate it.

Joomla and SMF templates are using the same Class Id’s . What you can do is: You can look for the duplicate Class Id’s in your templates. and you can rename them in one of the templates. I renamed the most in the Joomla template.


I used for the Webdeveloper toolbar for Firefox. This is really a great tool for finding these things.

Example of duplicate Class Id’s. (the footer Class Id)

Joomla footer (index.php)

SMF footer (index.template.php)

I renamed the footer ID from the Joomla template also ajust the Css file. and it works for me.

good point livebox.  There should *only* be one element with a given id name.  You should never use the same id twice in your html.  Obviously since J! and SMF are two separate systems it is possible you will have duplicate elements with the same id.

I build a check in the Joomla template.
When my forum is shown I don't show any menu's on the left side. When this happens I don't include the Joomla CSS but only the SMF template CCS. I included some of the CSS id's from the Joomla template in the SMF template.

How did you build in the check. Did you check it with the Webdeveloper toolbar witch Css files are loaded. ;)

I had to rewrite a lot of Css code to get my board done. I am still working on it :P

I did the following in my template index.php:

I check if there are any menu's on the left if not the forum is loaded and I  don't load the css from joomla.

And I checked with Webdeveloper Toolbar and only the Print.css and Style.css from SMF are loaded.

But the strange thing is when I copy the link to qoute and open that in a new window all works fine.

And I never had the problem with the old bridge.
