Title: SMF 1.1RC2-1 security patch installation instructions
Post by: -Wolverine on March 30, 2006, 09:47:00 AM
If you are using Joomla-SMF 1.1.01(you should be!) here are some step by step procedure to install the SMF 1.1RC2-1 security patch.

  • 1) Login to Joomla Administrator
  • 2) Select Joomla-SMF->Configuration from the Components menu
  • 3) Click [ unpatch ]
    • This link is in front of the text "Patch SMF Source Files"
  • 4) Access your SMF installation directly using your SMF Forum URL
    • This is NOT your Joomla URL, i.e.
    • Your SMF url would be something like one of the following:
  • 5) Login to SMF
  • 6) Access the SMF admin
  • 7) Select Packages
  • 8) Under "Latest Packages" you will see instructions about this security patch.  Click the link this patch (click here to install)
  • 9) SMF will then test the install and prompt you with a button labeled Install Now, click the button
    • You should be taken to a page with the text: "The package was installed successfully."  If you aren't, please report these problem to simple machines forums.
  • 10) Login to Joomla Administrator
  • 11) Select Joomla-SMF->Configuration from the Components menu
  • 12) Click the link click to patch
    • This link is in front of the text "Patch SMF Source Files"

That is it.  I have reviewed and briefly tested the changes and all appears to be ok.

I try to install security patch (SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update      1.0 ), with Wolverine's manual,but after installation,registration via SMF Forum is inposible.
After filling registration form and trying to submit, I get:

Fatal error: sendmail(): Failed opening required '/administrator/components/com_smf/config.smf.php' (include_path='.;c:\php4\pear') in C:\home\users\GG06-45-03-23_3sdf6456sdf46s89e\mysite.com\public_html\forum\Sources\Subs-Post.php on line 511

I use SMF 1.1RC2 ; Joomla 1.0.8
