Anyways I've had an opportunity to play with Joomla SMF 1.0 beta now and it works great, the integration between Joomla and SMF is smooth and as yet I've not come across any issues.
I have however found a small issue with the login module that is bundled with the beta 1 release. If I publish the module as the last module it displays fine, if I place it first or anywhere else I get a stray module block for my layout (see attached screenshot. I'm using Macphoria templates).
If I unpublish the login module the module block disappears so I'm assuming its a Joomla SMF login module issue. Is there a stray <div> tag anywhere in the code?
Hope you can help with that issue. Update this could be a general Joomla issue (is the SMF login module BASED on the default login module?) because when I unpublish the SMF login module and try the default login module the issuse is still there. I'll post in the template forums and joomla forums. Update: follow the bug progress here http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,7873.msg63101.html#msg63101
Now for a few requests, Can you add a custom welcome message box to the login module, like the Joomla default, so that I can add my own text. Also if there anyway of adding custom links to the login box for when a user has logged in. For example you currently have a link to calendar and profile, I would like to be able to add a link to submit content/article or anything else for that matter. This would in theory do away with the user menu and keep everything in one place instead of having 2 seperate modules.
Hope you can help.

Just to give you a heads up I recevied this response to a theme question in the SMF community forum.

Joomlahacks.com Component isn't official nor is it stable (I am writing these according to my own experiences), It actually is aganist the SMF Licence! I also have no idea how it handles the CSS or the templates. I would suggest installing the official birdge which can be found here in this board. Also you might try combining the CSS files into one file which is also described in the related sections here...
I'm intersted in the part about being against the SMF license... do you know about this?
License to create Joomla Component? Remember the center of this is Joomla, not SMF. I guess that license issue is about the Mambo-SMF text attached beside their copyright text. You see I moved it below as they wish. They should be HAPPY now.
I think I can just translate that post to.. "Use our bridge, and not JoomlaHacks' bridge". Why can't they just be happy, like the Joomla people.
Anyway, you see it's stable.. it is here. Maybe you can just reply there with your own experience. I don't go to their forum (funny is it) because all I read is bashing and negative remarks about this work. Why?.. because they have their own bridge going on.
Don't worry about that license talk.

My original post regarding the stray module was submitted as a Joomla bug and has now been fixed in Joomla 1.0.2. Not sure of the ETA but I'm very impressed with the turnaround of the developers and the support forums.
