Upon forum log-in, re-directed to joomla index?

Upon forum log-in, the user is redirected to the Joomla index and is logged out of both the main Joomla site and the forum.
How can I fix this?
Also, what should I choose as Joomla-SMF and Global settings if I want the log-in and registration for both the site and the forum to remain separate?

I had the same problem and after upgrading to 2.0.2.1 it worked fine.

Yes, thank you... I got that from another post...
but now I don't want to use the bridge at all and I get a fatal error:
