Problem with charset
« on: November 19, 2006, 03:48:18 PM »

Hi guys

I'v successfully integrated Joomla anf smf, but now i have problems with special characters on my frontend page. (admin works OK)

I use UTF-8 encoding on Joomla and before patching index.php with Joomla-smf component everything works without problems.
Can you give me some advice, how to fix this problem.

Thx

the only thing I think this could be is that because we include SMF's SSI it outputs SMF's headers and joomla's headers in the index.php do not get output.  So the headers for SMF would need to be updated to match the joomla index headers.  Just a guess.

Good question regarding UTF-8! What in the patch does break UTF-8?
Both J! and SMF are working in UTF-8 but applying the patch will break UTF-8 string.

The patch includes SSI.php from SMF(that is the main reason for it) and we don't output joomla headers if SMF already output them.  (Those are HTTP headers not some visual website element with the same name).  I believe this may be part of the problem however there is no workaround I am aware of at this point.  Sorin didn't you post a Unicode char fix in the other thread?

Yes, I've posted a solution that really works. Still I think it's a bug in SMF that creates this behavior. Read the above topic for the solution.
