I need your help, please advise
« on: August 14, 2006, 12:54:32 PM »

Hello everyone, I simply love joomla and wanted to integrate my old forum into a new site design.  I am having some problems getting the install to work and getting my SMF users onto my Joomla database.  My SMF was originally installed by fantastico a few years ago.

During the configuration process it propmts me for the database prefix.  When typing in my prefix it still shows that it isn't correct.  Is their anyway to fix this?  I have a alot of posts and members and I really dont want to start over.

I am using the latest version of Joomla and SMF 1.1 RC2 as info.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

fantastico installs SMF in a separate database.  If the un/pw for both the joomla and smf dbs are the same you can prefix the table name with your smf db name

Okay, assuming I change the joomla info in the configuration.php file to match the un/pw where do I go after that. right now my db names for both are as follows:

Joomla: brad_joom2
SMF: brad_bradkazsmf

Excude my st$p$dity but im lost and need to get this working  Grin Thanks in advance!

if the un/pw used to access both those databases is *exactly* the same, then your smf table prefix would be

brad_bradkazsmf.smf_

I have not tested this, but in theory it should work.

I did it and got this error message:

Code:
DB function failed with error number 1146
Table 'bradkaz_bradkazsmf.smf_session' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT session_id FROM smf_session WHERE session_id = 'ece436344264166d9dc5081ca5be182f'
SQL =

SELECT session_id
 FROM smf_session
 WHERE session_id = 'ece436344264166d9dc5081ca5be182f'

I can't believe something like this is this difficult, it should't be!

I can't believe it is that difficult to install both on the same database.  This is a bridge with requirements, and one of them is that both systems use the same database.  Sorry it didn't work, but this is what we offer.  If it isn't difficult I'd be happy to see the code you write for it.  Just let me know.
