I used SMF 1.1RC2 bridge to integrate Joomla and SMF (I orginally tried 1.1.4.1, but it wouldn't work with the latest stable release of Joomla). Anyway, the forum works great, and the link from my Joomla menu takes me dirctly to my forum. However, I have a few functional problems: 1. When users register for my website, they are not automatically registered for the forum. Do I have to "sync users" every time someone registers for either site (forum or main website)? 2. I also don't want users to be sent directly to the forum after they login. They are logging in to get access to much more than the forum, and I'd like them to choose when they enter the forum. According to my component configuration this should not happen...but it does every time. I'm so close to getting this all to work. I will certainly donate a percentage of my gain to joomla and joomlahacks for their incredible efforts. 3. Finally, is there any way to bring users back to my website after they log out of the forum? Thank you for your assistance.
I'm not completely sure I know how to find the answer, but here goes.
1. Bridge = SMF 1.1RC2 2. Login Module = version mod_login.php (I'm using the module that came with Joomla 1.0.10. Its listed in my module manager. Is there another place to look for the version?) 3. According to the module XML, its version="1.0.0"
I apologize for my ignorance. Let me know if I should search elsewhere. Thank you.
I am also having problems. I have patched the files in the Joomla-SMF forum admin and synchronized the users as well.
I using SMF 1.1RC2, and the bridge I am using is 1.1.4.2
after clicking the forum button on the main page, SMF seems to intergrate just fine although the site menus don't show up when you go to the forum, just a blank column, I made sure that I set the main menu to show while in the forums.
I installed two things 1) com_joomla_smf_forum_1_1 (I assume that this is the component), and 2) Joomla-SMF_1[1].1RC2_including_patch1
I followed the instruction from the configuration menu and I was able to successfully connect to the database, install the patch, and synchronize users. However, whenever I log into the website it takes me directly to the forum, and the forum does not accept the password. As I indicated above, I would rather not have user directed to the forum upon login, but it would be helpful if they did not have to login twice once they get to the forum. Am I making sense? Thanks for sticking with me. Best, Danny
OK, after reading your questions above, it occurred to me that perhaps I'm missing a module. Thus I installed mod_joomla_smf_login_1_4_2. It looks nice, but I still have the same problems.
Thanks, Danny

wow, you're really lost. Ok, this is a bridge between joomla and smf. So first, you need to install Joomla, recommended version is 1.0.10. Then you need to install SMF(Simple Machines Forum) version 1.1.RC2 in the same database as Joomla.
