Multiple Joomla sites with SMF -sharing or new instances?

Thanks for a fantastic bridge. I am running two  Joomla sites  off one database , one as jos1_ the other as jos_, SMF is running as smf_. If I change the config.smf.php file in the bridge to look for jos1_ and smf1_ can i run 2 separate instances of SMF? - one under jos_ and smf_ and the other under jos1_ and smf1_

I am running forum 1.1.02 and Joomla 1.0.8
