  • SMF 1.1 RC2+

PRE-REQUISITE:
=====================================
  1. Use the default database prefixes!
    • 'jos' for Joomla
    • 'mos_' for Mambo
    • 'smf_' for SMF
  2. Install Joomla 1.0.x (recommended) or Mambo 4.5.3+
    • Example Absolute Path: /home/user/public_html/
    • Example Live Site URL: http://www.yoursite.com
  3. Install SMF 1.1RC2+ on the same database as the Joomla/Mambo installation
    • Example Absolute Path: /home/user/public_html/smf/
    • Example SMF Forum URL: http://www.yoursite.com/smf

JOOMLA-SMF FORUM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Please report any errors encountered during this process to the forums on JoomlaHacks.com.

  1. Install Joomla-SMF Forum Component
    1. Login to Joomla/Mambo Administration
    2. Select 'Components' from the menu labeled 'Installers'
    3. Click 'Browse' and navigate to the com_joomla_smf_forum_x.y.zip file
    4. Click 'Upload File & Install'
    5. A message reporting the installation status will be displayed.
  2. If it does not say successful please report the error to JoomlaHacks.com
  3. Configure the Joomla-SMF Forum Component
    1. Select 'Joomla-SMF'->'Configuration' from menu labeled 'Components'
    2. Click 'Save'
    3. Enter the Absolute Path to your SMF installation *without* a trailing slash in the field marked 'SMF Absolute Path'.
      • For example: /home/myusername/public_html/forum
    4. Enter the Database Prefix for your SMF installation in the field marked 'SMF Database Prefix'.
    5. Click 'Save'
    6. **At this point there should be no red text in the configuration screen. If you still see red text this indicates a problem that should be recorded and reported.
    7. Click the link 'click to patch' in front of the text 'Patch Joomla Source files.
    8. **At this point the link should change and now show 'done[un-patch]'. An error message at the top of the screen should be recorded and reported.
    9. Click the link 'click to patch' in front of the text 'Patch SMF Source Files'.
    10. **At this point the link should change and now show 'done[un-patch]'. An error message at the top of the screen should be recorded and reported.
    11. Click the link 'click to sync' in front of the text 'Synchronize Joomla and SMF users.
      • This step is optional but highly recommended
    12. **At this point the link should change and now show 'done[verify]'. An error message at the top of the screen should be recorded and reported.
  4. Verify that all INSTALLATION CHECKLIST items are marked 'done' or 'installed'**
  5. Optional Configurations
    • Any additional configurations can be made at this time.

There are a wide variety of optional modules and mambots that have been written to work well with Joomla-SMF. You can find these located in the downloads section of JoomlaHacks.com

  1. Visit JoomlaHacks.com first for compatibility check.
  2. Go back to Joomla-SMF configuration.
  3. Un-patch the SMF Source Files!
  4. Re-patch it after upgrading or installing.

UPGRADING FROM JOOMLA-SMF FORUM RELEASES:
=====================================
  1. Uninstall the previous version of Mambo-SMF Forum, recent topics modules, and optional login module.
  2. Uninstall the SMF Mod from SMF Package Manager.
  3. Install the new Joomla-SMF Forum.

   jos_ or jos ??????????? Joomla's default database prefix is "jos_" , not "jos". You should fix it.

   I just got an error from the "Patch SMF": Failed: Code to be patched not found in file: if (!defined(\'WIRELESS\'))/homepages/17/d116902412/htdocs/websites/scifantalk/forum/index.php

   I got an error when I try to 'click to patch' in front of the text 'Patch Joomla Source files.>>>>> html/Joomla/index.php file or the parent path is not writeable! what should I do

   It works but I can only navigate to the forum when logging in. then again, I configured do not navigate to forum on login and it does. Logging out in CB does not log out the SMF.
